Halloween happenings: Seattle Central Edition

Halloween is one of the biggest fall holidays in Seattle. The decorations start going up the second October hits, so undoubtedly, there will be a lot of events happening for Hallows’ Eve. In addition to the spirit of Halloween, there were also a lot of events at Seattle Central.

Evan Franulovich Pumpkin Painting

Pumpkin painting was the first activity that the team of Seattle Central started with, organized by the International Ambassadors. This event was well planned, not only when it came to the timing but down to every last detail.

This event was on Tuesday, Oct. 22, in the prime spot of room 1111, Broadway Edison building. Students were welcomed by the International Ambassadors as they entered a wonderful environment of the Halloween spirit with lots of pumpkins to choose from and perfectly creepy music to set the vibe. Students started at the main table by collecting their desired paint colors.

Upon taking a seat at their beloved table, they noticed there were cotton bud swabs that ensured their hands were clean and the paint got to the spot they intended. Tissues were placed at every table in order to wipe off any paint mishaps. They had a variety of snacks available for students, and these pumpkins were then available for the students to take home.

After an amazing benchmark set up for them at the pumpkin painting, it was up to student leadership to live up to this mark.

Jack Dylan Miller, President of the International Club Movie Night

Unfortunately, the movie night event was not as well organized as the International Ambassador’s event. The timing was chosen appropriately, keeping in mind students’ schedules, but the event did not start on time and was, in fact, half an hour late. The event, which was supposed to start at 12:30 p.m., started at 1:00 p.m., and the boba drinks were out of stock even before the movie started.

It was still a good effort on their part, as the movie “Corpse Bride” by Tim Burton was enjoyable and fell right into the Halloween vibe. Students seemed to have a good time watching it, but many missed the climax due to the event’s late start, as they had classes starting at either 2:00 p.m. or 2:30 p.m.

International Ambassadors

Now, a little something for the students on vacation quarter or those not in town or taking online classes, the International Ambassadors thought to include them as well. They held an online “Boo-tiful Contest” where students submitted their Halloween outfits and competed for the top five positions. The contest was open from Oct. 24 to Nov. 1, considering the time differences of students not in the States. The top five then received amazing prizes.

Vrindha | The Seattle Collegian Food Stalls at the Fright Fest

For the grand finale, the Halloween party – The Fright Fest. This event was held on Oct. 31; it started at 5:00 p.m. and went on till 8:00 p.m. It had a variety of food and drinks, including sushi, popcorn, cotton candy, boba, and so much more. There was also live music, games, and a photo booth. The turnout for this event was incredible, with most people showing up in their costumes, making the Fright Fest truly frightful.

Vrindha | The Seattle Collegian The Dance Floor

The first hour was a little boring as everyone was too focused on the yummy food, but the second the clock struck six, the party became lively. The whole crowd migrated to the dance floor, hyping each other up and showing off their fantabulous moves. The atmosphere was extremely welcoming and made the students and faculty of Central want to join in the fun. There were people taking photographs, playing games, and eating, but all eyes were on the dance floor. All in all, everyone at the event had a blast.

One positive thing was that none of the events required students to have a huge group. These events were organized to foster a happy and healthy environment where people wanted to interact with new people around them, not just their friends. Even if the students came alone, they made new friends and had a thrilling and happy time.

An admirable thing is that the International Ambassadors really kicked it up a notch this time. They were not only perfect in execution but also ensured everything was considered, from perfect timings to food preferences, from on-campus students to those away from campus. This is the first time that Central has taken the initiative to cover all fronts, and it was thrilling to be a part of every event they hosted, whether online or offline. I am certainly looking forward to more fantabulous events in the future. Good job, Central!
