Seattle Central College students will have the chance to petition for an extra day off school, a time when they may need it the most.
The Associated Student Council (ASC) discussed lobbying for a Dead day in their last two meetings. If a Dead Day is approved at Seattle Central, teachers will have a ‘no class day’ or abstain from assigning large due dates on that day, which would come just prior to final exams. The hope is that it will minimize students’ workloads and stress before finals week. If implemented, Seattle Central will be among a number of schools that already have a Dead Day in place.
A petition has been circulating throughout campus. The petition will be available in the Student Leadership Building and at ASC tabling in the Broadway Edison Building through next week. There will also be a forthcoming survey and proposal from ASC, who is working with the Faculty Senate to explore the idea.
ASC’s meeting is held on every Tuesday from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Student Leadership Building’s Conference Room (across from campus and above the bookstore). The meeting is open to the public at Seattle Central College.
