On Monday, December 7, and Tuesday, December 8, an unknown person used rocks and other objects to break through the windows of the MAC building on Seattle Central’s Campus. The incident took place on the Nagle Place side of the building, across from Cal Anderson park. The perpetrator caused roughly $30,000 worth of damage to the building, and police are investigating the incident. No one appeared to be inside the building at the time, and there were no reported injuries or confrontations on the school’s part.
Clean-up has been taking place throughout the week, but either the perpetrator or unrelated persons have reportedly been instigating confrontations with clean-up crews. The crews have reported being harassed and having more rocks thrown at them during their efforts. Since then, the school reports in an email that they’ve contacted Seattle Police to increase patrols around the campus.
The school also warned people to avoid Nagle Place and Cal Anderson as a whole in order to keep safe from the illegal encampments stationed nearby. “We are working with Seattle Police and the city of Seattle to address the unsafe conditions of the area,” they stated in their campus-wide email.
This is not the first time the building has been vandalized. During the Capitol Hill Occupied Protest, or CHOP, the same building was vandalized on its Broadway-facing side, as well as other buildings.
If anyone in the area spots any illegal activity, they are urged by the school to call 911. The security office is also available to escort people to the Harvard Garage or to the Link light rail station upon request. You can contact their office at (206) 934-5442.
