A step toward organization and leadership was taken at the first student body meeting under the direction of William D. (Bill) Klontz. Many have not had the opportunity to become aquainted with Bill. This is for you.
Bill was born in Viking, Alberta, Canada. He would not tell me the year, only that he has celebrated his thirty-ninth birthday. He attended a parochial school in Vancouver to the end of the seventh grade when he joined the Merchant Marine.
In 1930 he came to the U.S. and went to sea with various steamship companies.
In 1938 he was married and he now has three daughterst (aged 25, 21, and 11) and one grandchild.
In 1949 Klontz went into business for himself in restaurants and sporting goods. Two years ago he decided to retire and return to school. Bill eventually wants to become a guidance counselor.
Besides being our S.B.A. President, he is on the Board of Trustees of the Italian Club, assistant chairman ‘of their scholorship program, and is president of the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine of St. Edwards Church. His hobbies include gardening, stamp collecting, and watching the Seattle University basketball team play.
Where the college is conconcerned Bill wants the students “…to maintain a feeling of responsibility and independance that has prevailed in the past. The students should, more or
less, govern themselves. Before anything can be done, however, we must develop confidence in ourselves and our school.”
“I urge students not to feel that because our college is new it is also inferior. Organization takes time and patience. What is needed most is the students’ participation to make this a college that is second
to none.”
