So, Unity Fair 2023 just happened… and it went great!
The committee for the Unity Fair event planning, which is the largest annual event at Seattle Central College (SCC), had two training and planning sessions for all the staff and volunteers who took part. But the organizational meetings for brainstorming and putting things together for the big event started before the beginning of the 2023 spring quarter.
This year, the head of the event was led by Kano Cheng, with help from JC Ignacio from Student Leadership. Although Student Leadership has seen changing faces and positions recently, the success of Unity Fair 2023 may very well speak to what we can expect in SCC’s future.
Unity Fair 2023 was much different from last year’s. First, it was very sunny and with great weather, not your typical Seattle clouds. This year also left zero students hospitalized, so our school didn’t have to deal with angry calls. That was a good thing.
There were plenty of clubs and organizations with all sorts of activities and information available for students and passers-by. There were also new clubs created this school year that were present at the fair, such as the Weightlifting Club, Black Student Union, and the Dance Club.
This year’s fair included several booths which gave out tickets to those who completed tasks (like checking-in, playing games, or asking questions). Students could gather them and then trade them for prizes at one of the tents. Prizes included the college’s mascot plushies in different sizes and colors, candy, lip balm, and Seattle Central swag. The food trucks served a limited amount of free food for anyone who checked in with their student email, and around 1:30pm, the lines were long and full of students with smiles on their faces.
Without further ado, let’s see some photos!
