Indoor soccer at the Seattle Colleges: Futsal intramural registration open

Get your kicks this fall quarter with futsal – a faster-paced, tighter-spaced, five-a-side mini-soccer designed for play primarily indoors on a hard court. The sport is believed to have originated in 1930, Uruguay, the same year and country where the first FIFA World Cup was held. Professional international stars like Pelé and Messi are said to have developed their nimble footballing skills in part through futsal.

The Seattle Colleges Futsal Intramural League tournament games will take place on Fridays from noon to 3 p.m. between Oct. 31 and Dec. 5, 2025, with game locations rotating among the three campuses: Central, North, and South. A schedule will be shared with registered participants via email. Registration by Oct. 24 is required to participate, and late admissions will not be accepted.

Whether you’re looking to simply learn and enjoy the game or are a seasoned athlete, the intramural league is designed to be both enjoyable and structured for all experience and skill levels, according to the Seattle Colleges Wellness Center administrators.

Sammy Faust, manager at Seattle Central College’s Mitchell Activity Center (MAC), told The Seattle Collegian she hopes the intramural league provides “a space that allows students to have fun, play a sport they enjoy, and build community.”

“There are a ton of stressors that contribute to the daily lives of students, and getting a space to play, recreate, and meet others is a way we hope to reduce stress for our students,” Faust said.

The MAC’s recreation and athletics specialist, Christine Lynch, said she hopes “students engage in fun, fair, and friendly competition with each other.”

“Our goal with intramurals is to offer a space for students to meet new people, build community, develop skills, and to stay physically active,” Lynch said. “We hope this tournament provides an opportunity for students to enjoy the game of futsal in a laid-back and welcoming environment.”

Lynch added that students can reach out to her if they need support or have any questions or ideas for recreation and intramurals.

The Seattle Colleges uses IMLeagues to manage the tournament online, providing schedules, scores, team management, and communication between teammates and opponents. Current Seattle Colleges students can register as individuals to be placed on a team or as a group at IMLeagues.com.

As a prerequisite to sign up for intramural programs, participants must agree to abide by Seattle Colleges’ rules, Wellness Center’s policies, student codes of conduct, user agreement, and complete a waiver.
